Frequently Asked Questions - Fresh Ink Group Publishing FAQ's

FAQs - Fresh Ink Group Publishing FAQ's

Our mission is to publish quality books so yours is recognized as
the proud release of a top-tier publisher. That means we have to
reject some submissions. Still, we look for creative ideas and smart
writing , so we do not reject a book just for not being ready. Instead,
we recommend how to improve your book's quality and marketability,
we work with our authors to help them achieve their best work. The
Fresh Ink Group brand means a great book. Your name on the cover
should, too.

Our rapidly expanding catalog is open to nearly every kind of book.
From novels, collections, and graphic stories to memoir and self-help
quality writing from great authors is what we publish. We do avoid
hate literature and instruction in illegal activity. We support
free speech, but prefer not to help spread harmful messages. Material
like tasteful erotica might be welcome, but not pom. We cannot
risk filters blocking the websites our authors depend on. All of
our author-members are proud of the wide-ranging selection of FIG
books. Submit now, and we'll tell you what we think.

Many of our authors have switched to earn higher royalties, offer
lower cover prices, and work with a top-notch team. Some want to
put out updated editions. Switching depends on your current contract,
but it's usually quick and easy. Often we can help, especially moving
from POD companies such as iUniverse, Xlibris, and Author House.

You might be eligible for a FIG discount if you own some or all of
your book and e-book files. If you already have a great book, talk
to us about how to join the FIG member team.

The advantages are many. Here are a few of our authors' favorites:

  • HIGHEST ROYALTIES: Our 100%/75% royalty cannot be topped. Only
Mill City Press claims to try, but they charge thousands of dollars
in enrollment fees, processing charges, annual renewals, pre-pay
printing costs, and more. Divide all that into the number of
books sold, and you'll see FIG royalties dominate the industry.
  • LOW COVER PRICES: Authors may adjust cover pricing, but FIG's
pricing guidelines have low cover prices with higher per-book
royalties. For example, FIG recommends a 224-page 6X9" trade
edition be priced at $11.50 to earn a royalty of $5.38/$4.04.
Plus, Amazon and B&N might well discount that $11.50! FIG'S low
cover and e-book prices help you sell more books.
  • WEB MARKETING: FIG's websites are designed to promote authors'
careers and their books. Members start with fifteen web pages,
free sample stories/articles, four author-controlled posting sections,
readers' forum, staff blog, and more. Your readers can click
to impulse-buy your book from the major e-tailers they trust.
Plus, the Amazon-powered FIG bookstore stands ready to ship your
    books fast.
  • LOWEST COSTS: Whether you're subsidy publishing or self-publishing
with our author services, you cannot beat FIG's costs. Nobody
offers all of what FIG does for its authors. Those who try to
come close charge way more and/or add budget-busting hidden charges,
ongoing renewal levies, and processing fees. If you think you've
found a better deal, talk to us first . FIG is not for every author. . . just
    the smart ones.
  • NIMBLENESS: FIG stays ahead of the changing industry, and keeps
your books current, we constantly tweak our worldwide distribution
for new markets. We adapt our e-book platforms to ensure maximum
access in all the popular formats. We exploit clever new ideas
to market all of our authors' work. We don't put your book out
and forget about you. We build writing careers so each new book
helps sell more of the earlier ones. Don't be somebody's "customer."
At FIG you deserve to be a MEMBER.

We absorb all costs from retailer shipping to cataloging, listing,
tracking, billing, collecting, and royalty payment. We offer printing
costs among the lowest anywhere. Even if someone claims to beat
our printing by pennies, ours includes restocks within days, often
overnight, we don't charge added fees you have to prorate into the
cost of each sold book. We even take a loss on our own admin costs
so you can earn 100% until you recoup your Member's package investment.

Our current formats include Kindle, Nook, PDF apps, and compatible
devices. These include all Android devices, BlackBerry, iPad, iPhone,
PC, and Mac. What's more, as the industry changes and new formats
emerge, FIG expands its catalog to exploit every great opportunity.

We acknowledge every submission and estimate the time we'll need.
In most cases, we provide a manuscript-sample evaluation in 2-3 weeks.
Too many publishers pick through submissions and ignore the rest.
Every author smart enough to submit to FIG deserves our respect.

FIG's author services are available to all . Some authors prefer
to have FIG publish under a brand owned by the author. Others might
use FIG for services such as editing, cover design, bookblock layout,
and marketing, then publish somewhere else. FIG is proud of helping
launch great books, whatever our role. If we think your unique goals
are best achieved elsewhere, we will gladly help.

In most cases, yes. Some authors, especially non-fiction experts
building a multimedia platform, want their own publishing imprint.
FIG can do this, yet still offer all the other Member's benefits.

Yes. In fact, you never stop owning your copyright from the moment
you write the book through publication and beyond. FIG's Member's
Packages also include registering with the U.S. Copyright Office.
Registration may be to an individual, writing team, organization,
or pseudonym ("pen name"). Pseudonym registration may reveal the
writer's true identity, or FIG will document your anonymously owned
book. Every author owns his or her work, but FIG offers that extra
legal protection.

FIG is happy to work with an author's agent or manager. However,
we specialize in saving authors the expense. We accept direct submissions,
then package worldwide distribution without an agent's help. When
your work is ready for spinning off third-party rights such as film,
television, games, and merchandise, we will discuss your options.
The choices are up to you. Whether we shop rights for you, refer
you to one of our member agents, or recommend you seek out your own,
maximizing your success is the goal.

Yes. FIG recognizes that even name-brand authors must help promote
their work to drive sales. Each member gets a free private 30-minute
session with our marketing director, with optional assistance any
time after. While FIG supports all of its books, the core is helping
each author develop a unique plan. We know what works, and we measure
success. The bottom line is, we lose money on your book until you
start seeing a profit. Learn more in the Member's Publishing Package
and E-book Only Member's Publishing Package. Contact us to arrange
